Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene Chalmers Medal Winner – 2019

Congratulations to Dr. Sam Kinyanjui who was named winner of the 2019 Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene Chalmers Medal. This honour was announced at the 11th European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health held in Liverpool. The award was in recognition of Dr. Kinyanjui’s exemplary efforts to revolutionize capacity building in young African researchers down to his scientific ability, insight and collaborative approach. Dr. Kinyanjui is the Director of the Initiative to Develop African Research Leaders – IDeAL and Head of Training at KEMRI-Wellcome Trust.
The Chalmers Medal is awarded to researchers in tropical medicine or international health who obtained their last relevant qualification between 15 and 20 years ago, allowing for career breaks, who demonstrate evidence of mentoring and professional development of junior investigators, and other forms of capacity-building.
