In this issue of Blood, Dubert et al present the results of a large cohort study conducted across 3 sub-Saharan African countries (Mali, Cameroon, and Ivory Coast) to quantify differences between subphenotypes of sickle cell disease (SCD) based on markers of anemia, hemolysis, and vascular complications.
