Dr. Jalemba Aluvaala

Biography

Jalemba Aluvaala is a post-doctoral researcher with an interest in perinatal-neonatal clinical and health services research. After training in Paediatrics (University of Nairobi, 2009) and Epidemiology (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, 2013) he completed a DPhil in Clinical Medicine at the Nuffield Department of Medicine (2018). For his doctoral work, he developed prognostic models using routine data to predict in-hospital mortality in the neonatal unit. He leads the neonatal component of the Clinical Information Network (CIN) under Prof. Mike English at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Nairobi. The CIN for Neonates focuses on inpatient units serving small and sick neonates. Research interests include understanding neonatal outcomes, implementation research and evidence synthesis for essential inpatient neonatal care. Aluvaala is also a member of the Ministry of Health Technical Working Group on Neonatal Health. In addition, he holds a research track post as a Research Fellow/Lecturer at the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, School of Medicine, University of Nairobi.
