Clinical Research

Our vision is to answer questions of immediate translational importance, focusing on inpatient care of sick children and neonates. To achieve this we will operate a “pipeline” approach with progression through
  • Investigation of pathophysiology and
  • Early phase clinical trials in preparation for larger trials and
  • Multi-center trials to influence policy. Current areas of interest include neurodevelopment, malnutrition and maternal and perinatal health.
Clinical research crosses all three of our main locations (Nairobi, Uganda and Kilifi). Clinical trials in Nairobi are supported by a network spanning 14 hospitals where clinical information systems have been established as part of health systems research, and Nairobi KWTRP also acts as a coordinating centre for international work. Multi-country trials in severe life-threatening illness in Kenya (Kilifi and Mombasa), Uganda (Mbale, Soroti and Kampala), Malawi (Blantyre) and DRC (Kinshasa) are led by and managed from Kilifi Clinical Trials Facility.
