Clinical Information Network (CIN)
A collaboration between KWTRP, Kenya Paediatric Association, Ministry of Health Kenya, and county public hospitals.
Research Description:
The Clinical Information Network (CIN) is a collaboration between KWTRP, Kenya Paediatric Association, Ministry of Health Kenya, and county public hospitals. It was initiated in 2013 to support the use of information to improve hospital care for children and newborns and provide information to guide policy and practice at the county and national level in Kenya. The CIN is a hospital surveillance platform that collects routine admission and discharge data using a standardised format in the paediatric and neonatal wards of 24 public county hospitals in 19 of the 47 counties in Kenya. The platform is modelled around the principles of Learning Health Systems where clinical practice, research and knowledge translation interact to result in continual improvement in care. The routine data collected is used for audit and feedback as an intervention to improve quality of care. We also use the data to conduct observational epidemiological studies, pragmatic clinical trials, and health systems research.
