Biography

Professor Noor is a Wellcome Trust Research Fellow at the Kenya Medical Research Institute/Wellcome Trust Research Programme (KEMRI-WTRP) in Nairobi, Kenya. He is also a Visiting Professor, University of Oxford, UK. His research includes measuring access to health care, mapping of malaria transmission, populations at risk and the coverage and impact of malaria control interventions in Africa. His current studies focus on mapping and understanding the changing malaria transmission in Africa, especially on very low malaria transmission countries. In 2009, Professor Noor was awarded the African Union National Scientific Award in Life and Earth Sciences in recognition of his research work in malaria. Professor Noor is currently the Head of the Spatial Health Metrics Group, Department of Public Health Research, KEMRI-WTRP and Director of INFORM (Information for Malaria). He is also Chairman of the Kenyan National Council of Population and development, Co-Chair of the Roll Back Malaria Monitoring and Evaluation Reference Group, a member of the steering committee of the Global Technical Strategy for malaria and a member of the malaria Surveillance, Monitoring and Evaluation Technical Expert Group of the WHO. He provides technical advice and support to national malaria programmes in the East and Horn of Africa region.
