KEMRI AT 40

The Kenya Medical Institute (KEMRI) celebrated its 40th anniversary on 10th February 2020. The celebration commemorated during the 10th KASH Conference brought together over 800 guests to celebrate 40 years of research excellence in Africa.

In search for better health, KEMRI was established in 1979 through the Science and Technology Act. In 1989 through a partnership with KEMRI, the Wellcome Trust and the University of Oxford, the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Programme was established. Over the years the two research centres have worked together to continuously improve health research in Kenya by delivering  high quality research that is relevant to global health.

In the 40 years celebration, Dr. Benjamin Tsofa, Dr. Sam Kinyanjui, Dr. Edwine Barasa and Prof. Faith Osier from the KEMRI-Wellcome were recognised for their contribution in advancing health research in Kenya. Prof. Kevin Marsh and Dr. Norbert Peshu were acknowledged in KEMRI’s History for their contribution in health research.
