We are pleased to announce the Parasite Invasion Assay Workshop, funded by the Cambridge-Africa Alborada Fund, will be held at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Kilifi, Kenya, from 4th – 8th June 2018.
This free workshop will provide participants with hands-on training in cutting-edge cellular phenotyping techniques for characterising and quantifying Plasmodium falciparum merozoite invasion into human red blood cells, an essential step in the parasite life cycle.
The overall workshop strategy will be to follow a parasite invasion assay experiment from conception to completion, incorporating multiple cell labelling and flow cytometry, thereby equipping workshop attendees to design and carry out their own projects in the future. Topics to be covered include:
• Basics in P. falciparum culturing techniques
• Preference invasion assay – multiple staining of red blood cells
• Flow cytometry analysis – FACS Canto flow cytometer usage, and FlowJo data analysis
