Mainga is the Chair of the Clinical Research theme in the programme. She is responsible for providing leadership and coordination of all clinical trials as well as monitoring, project management, database support and sponsorship for investigator led trials. Mainga is a clinician trained in Paediatrics in Oxford, UK. She has previously worked at the Oxford Vaccine Group, her work their contributed to her thesis which focused on the population biology of Streptococcus pneumoniae in pre-school children in Oxfordshire and Kathmandu, Nepal. She was also part of a vaccine trial in infants which led to the introduction and informed the schedule of the 10-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in Nepalese infants. Her current interest is on identifying key indicators of poor early and late neonatal outcomes in Kenyan health facilities, and evaluating established interventions in our setting for improved neonatal survival and neurodevelopment.
