Stephen studied Medicine at the University of Nairobi. He joined KEMRI/Wellcome Trust Research Programme in 2005 under the Child and Newborn Health Group.
He is currently working on a research project evaluating ways of improving quality of care given to sick children in hospitals in developing countries. He registered for a PhD at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 2008. The PhD involves developing quality of care indicators and exploring factors that influence health worker adherence to guidelines in hospitals in low income countries.
