Local scientist helps create knowledge on malaria

Kenyan scientists in Kilifi, at the coast, have exposed the cheating ways of the malaria parasite in a development that opens new possibilities for inventing new medicines and vaccines.

EXCERPT: Dr George Warimwe and colleagues from the Kenya Medical Research Institute-Wellcome Trust Programme can now explain how the parasite manages to outwit human body defence mechanism.

The new study, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences says the malaria parasites are able to diguise themselves to avoid the host's immune system.
