Workshops and Short Courses

We currently hold a series of short courses, which are available for interns, Masters students, PhD students and others within the Programme. During 2006-07 in Kilifi we ran in-house courses in Introduction to Research and in Basic Statistics, and hosted short courses on Working with pathogen genomes and Working with the human genome sequence (organized by the Wellcome Trust Advanced Courses Programme) for students from all over Africa.

The Programme also holds regular training courses in routine clinical skills for clinicians and nurses, and organizes fieldworker training sessions in association with research projects.Workshops are hosted by the Programme on an ad hoc basis in both Kilifi and Nairobi. For example In 2006-07 workshops were hosted on 'Capacity strengthening in African Institutions for Endemic Diseases Research' and on Developing a Social Science and Ethics Research Agenda for Biomedical Research in Africa.

High quality research depends critically on developing and sustaining the appropriate organizational, management and support structures. We have an established programme of professional and vocational training for support staff, including support for administrative staff and support for senior technical staff.
