Postdoctoral internships

Kenyans who return home following PhD training abroad play an important role in building capacity for research in the country. However, the process  is often made difficult by lack of a *landing space* for the returning researchers. We are keen to support such researchers  and although we do not  currently have a scheme with publicly advertised positions or specific intake  dates, we are able on occasions to organise postdoctoral internships on a one off basis. The aim of such internships is to provide  a period of support while they settle back in Kenya and mentorship as they prepare for the next stage of their research career.

The internship last for a year, during which time the interns have an opportunity to work with and be mentored by experienced researchers. On their part, the interns  are expected to contribute intellectually  and technically in the research area they are engaged in. The interns are also expected to show initiative in developing their own research questions and those whose show outstanding initiative may be supported to apply for a training grant from the Wellcome Trust or other funders.

Currently the scheme is slanted toward recently graduated Kenyans post-docs returning home but we plan to expand the support to include researchers from other East African countries.

If you are interested in these postdoctoral internships please browse through the links to the various researchers in the Programme and contact the principle investigator working in your area of interest directly. Please label your email subject  "Postdoctoral internship enquiry"  This is important as we also have an undergraduate internship scheme that follows a different recruitment procedure. Please provide a short CV describing your area of  research interest.
